Volunteer Bereavement Worker                                    

Reports To: Head of Family and Carers Support Team/Bereavement Lead

Location: In the person’s home/community or at Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice

Hours: Flexible – generally 4 plus hours per week

Making a Difference: The support given by our Volunteer Bereavement Workers means a great deal to vulnerable, bereaved people. You can really make a difference by supporting people as they find ways to live with their grief and manage their day to day lives.

Key Duties

You will…  

  • Offer bereavement support to the families and friends of our patients, either 1:1 or in a group setting. 
  • Offer this service in a safe and confidential environment. 
  • Work with people at any point in their bereavement. 
  • Help people to find ways of coping with their grief.

Will the role suit me? YES, if you are… 

  • Someone with good listening and communication skills 
  • An enthusiastic and motivated individual who has 4 plus hours a week available to provide this much needed service
  • If you are someone interested in working with grief and you are keen to develop your skills in this area
